CHRISTMAS DIET TIPS
“Christmas” for Filipinos is synonymous to “festive”. What with the numerous Christmas parties and family reunions one has to attend, you could destroy your diet plan. Will you take the holiday trail to eating sumptuous bibingka, puto-bumbong, and fruitcakes? Or will you decide to eat healthier and not binge this Chritmas? I know it won’t be easy but you have to. All you need is to focus on one goal: not to add weight this holiday season. It can be a quite a feat that’s hard to achieve but it’s worth a try. But unless you want to say hello to an extra 10 pounds, go ahead and be my guest.
Here are some tips you can follow to make sure you’re still fit and healthy after everybody’s favorite Season:
1. Stay active. When given the chance to go out and run for some errand, do it. Christmas shopping can be a perfect activity because you get to walk and burn the calories. Afraid of the heavy Christmas traffic? Leave your car keys at home to commute or walk. If you regularly go to the gym, don’t let stress stop you from going this season. Continue with what you have started.
2. Don’t starve yourself. Definitely a no-no for me and you. Most people starve all day so they can binge for a holiday party that night. Don’t do this because you will only end up over-eating.
3. Don’t let your fat diary go. Monitor your calorie intake but don’t overdo it. It’s always best to at least know how much calories you’re taking in so you’ll have an idea whether it’s time to burn or eat some more.
4. Choose healthier options. Avoid adding to much dressing on your salad. Use low-fat milk on your pastries and cake. Choose healthier ingredients on the dish you are preparing or eating.
5. Enjoy what you love. Indulge in your favorite food but don’t eat everything on the table. Just get a small amount of each dish and indulge. Don’t pile your plate with all the food you want to eat because you’re not sure if you can finish them off. But even if you know you can…don’t. That’s gluttony.
6. Don’t try and start a new diet during the holidays. Don’t set yourself up for disappointment. However, if you’re already on a diet, stick to it!
7. Eat, drink, and be Merry! Christmas is a season full of love, joy, and peace that comes from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is the season to remember His birth so enjoy whatever is in store for you. Don’t go overboard though with the eating and drinking. There is such a thing called moderation. Don’t party too much, especially on a Saturday night because you might have a hard time getting up for church the next day!
