MEDICAL-DENTAL MISSION AND THANKSGIVING BAZAAR AT THE ICS WORSHIP CENTER
November 24, 2007 saw the ICS Worship Center abuzz with Kingdom activity as it simultaneously hosted the one day Medical-Dental Mission for the Brgy. Pat Antonio residents and the annual Thanksgiving Bazaar of the ICS Women’s Ministry. As early as 5 a.m., ministry volunteers were already up and awaiting a call or text message from Bro. Jess Lema, Ministry Development Program (MDP) Event Chairman for the Medical-Dental Mission, as to whether it would push through or be cancelled due to the anticipated arrival of tropical storm Mina. Thanks to the sovereign intervention of the Prayer-Answering God, Mina decided to take a detour and the Mission pushed through as scheduled.
Most of the incoming patients were processed on site at Brgy. Pat Antonio by an on-site team led by Sis. Jing Ragasa and Sis. Rose Dedel. From there, they were shuttled via L300 van and four jeepneys (courtesy of the office of City of Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim) to and from the church.
At the ICS Worship Center, they were joined by other invited guest-patients from the Mayflower Tricycle Drivers’ Association (MAFTODA) in front of ICS. There they welcomed by several volunteer staff from ICS and Master’s Commission Philippines.
On behalf of Rev. Jeremiah Balbuena and the ICS leadership, Ptr. Jesse Dedel welcomed the volunteer staff, as well as the first batch of guest-patients from Brgy. Pat Antonio with a short devotional message and an opening prayer of blessing for the day’s events.
This was followed by a mini-program staged by the Children’s Church. They sang two special musical numbers and did a short skit.
After the short program, the guest patients were then accommodated one by one by volunteer nurses from ICS and the Philippine Nurses’ Association - Pamantasan Ng Pasig, and treated by doctors and dentists who had also freely volunteered their time and medical expertise.
Most importantly, before the patients were instructed to go to the pharmacy to get their prescriptions filled, they were directed to the YA room, where they were given spiritual counseling and a chance to hear the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. As a result, several of the guest-patients were able to receive not only physical treatment, but healing for their souls as well.
After their medical treatment, the guest-patients were treated yet again, this time to an all-day “ukay-ukay” cum garage sale, which was held right inside the Main Sanctuary. There were twenty exhibitors’ booths all in all, selling everything from books, bags, blouses, eye glasses, food products, home decors and knick knacks, plants, and various other items, all for bargain basement prices. It was truly a Christmas-shopper-on-a-budget’s haven!
By day’s end, a total of 258 people had been treated: 218 people had been given medical treatment and 40 people had dental extractions performed on them, all for free.
In all this, the brethren of ICS are careful to bring back all the glory and honor to the Lord alone.
