Music and Magic: Mystical Rose at ICS
It is not often that we see magic tricks in the context of God’s love. Thus, it was so refreshing to watch the presentation of Rose Flores (aka “Mystical Rose”) during the ICS morning service last February 16, 2008.
She began with the familiar trick of linking metal rings. But combined with the song “We are the reason,” it became a powerful testimony of why God sent His Son. Next came a book that was magically filled with colors when the audience hand-tossed into the air and spoke the words “I am special.” Together with the verse in Jeremiah 29:11, it was a reassurance that we are truly important in God’s eyes.
The three ropes of various lengths, which magically became one long cord, demonstrated that nothing can separate us from His love and that He will always restore us despite trials and pains (knots). Thecolored hankies showed that our sin (black) made it hard for us to reach God (white) but it was the blood of Jesus (red) which connected us back to Him. Accompanied with the song “Every move I make,” the mélange of magic tricks at the end illustrated God’s marvelous love and plans for us.
The kids and the adults in the audience “oohed” and “aah-ed” with enthusiasm, and gave Mystical Rose well deserved applause. More importantly, her show reminded all of us that God truly makes all things beautiful in His time.
