ICS Leadership Retreat Features GLS 2007 Video Sessions
70 of ICS’ leaders and ministry heads turned out for the ICS Leadership Retreat last March 20, 2008.
Held at the church’s newly renovated Multi-Purpose Function Hall, the one-day event featured some of the best video presentations of The 2007 Global Leadership Summit. The annual Leadership Summits showcase cutting-edge teachings on leadership by Bill Hybels, senior pastor of the mega-church Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Ill., and other leadership pundits.
Ptr. Jesse Dedel, ICS’ associate pastor, formally opened the retreat with a prayer and by leading the congregation in worship through song.
Senior pastor Jerry Balbuena began the day’s series of videos by showing the video of Bill Hybel’s opening session, entitled “A Vision To Die For.” This was followed by the session entitled “Tough Choices”, which featured pastor Hybels interviewing Carly Fiorina, one time president and CEO of technology giant Hewlett-Packard.
After a brief lunch break, the sessions continued. Marcus Buckingham, author of best-selling management and leadership books like Discover Your Strengths, was next in line. His session, “Go Put Your Strengths To Work”, was about adopting a strengths-based approach to human resource development and leadership building.
This was followed by a truly inspiring video which featured the life and ministry of pastor, congressman and university president Floyd Flake, entitled “The Heat of Responsibility.”
The last video to be shown was Bill Hybel’s closing session and summit challenge, “Whatever You Do, Inspire Me!”
The delegates were all seated with their respective groups for the day, their seatmates. Each group was tasked to respond to and process the discussion questions given at the end of each session.
The groups’ inputs and responses were then collected at the end of the retreat for further study and development by the church’s leadership.
It was a day well spent, full of keen insights and wonderful teachings, complemented by the lively discussions and fellowship among the leaders in attendance.
The featured videos were all shown in October of last year at the Christ’s Commission Fellowship, where the 2007 Global Leadership Summit was locally hosted. Pastors Jerry, Jesse, and Bro. Edgar Gomez were the church’s representatives to the event.
