The Bations – A Musical Household of Faith
By Ptr. Jerry Balbuena
October 26, 2008 was one Sunday that would not soon be forgotten by the congregants of the ICS 10 am service, especially the music lovers. On that Sunday, the Bation family – Dolly and Rose, together with their children Thea, Trish and Josh – took center stage and gave glory unto God with their considerable musical skills.
The entire family rendered two song numbers, both of which they played live music to on their respective instruments. They are truly an accomplished family of singers and musicians. But their real love is to be on mission for the Lord.
Dolly and Rose were among the ‘first fruits’ of Ptr. Jerry’s early ministry. He was in General Santos City back in 1985, serving as Chapter Director for what was then Agape Campus Fellowship. Dolly was among his first Student Leaders, who later served as Student Staff, then Campus Pastor for Notre Dame of Dadiangas College. Rose was also serving as a Student Leader in the same College. Both are equally gifted in music.
Ever since they were students, they have been very passionate in ministry. Secular work for them was never considered “a necessary evil”, they have always viewed it as mission work and the workplace a mission field.
Eight years ago, their office assigned them to Philadelphia City in Pennsylvania. While there, they never allowed themselves to get sidetracked with the usual “work hard, get rich, retire early” mentality – ministry still streamlined their family priorities. Happily, the children caught the same vision and attitude towards missions, calling and life’s purpose.
Recently they came back to the country because God redirected the path of their Christian journey. Dolly and Rose are both accountants by profession and they could have stayed for the sake of the children and their schooling, working in another company as accountants. But they never forced the issue – they sold whatever they had accumulated in Philly including their house to follow the call of the Master. At present they will be based in General Santos City, as they await the Lord’s next directive word for their life.
Let us keep the Bation family in our prayers as they continue to seek His Will and serve His Purpose for their lives as a household of faith.
